"I get it!" These are some of the most powerful words in our classroom. I have 22 very diverse learners in a working class area who love to explore and create with hands-on activities. We have learners who are working at a wide range of academic levels and abilities, and who come from many different ethnic and financial backgrounds and speak multiple languages.
Our third-grade classroom is full of diverse learners who work best in a hands-on, individualized environment.
We try to achieve this by working in small groups in reading, writing, and math. My students love to experience learning for themselves by doing instead of just listening.
My Project
Working time in our classroom can be loud. Sometimes it can be hard to see our classroom quiet signal, or hard to know when to stop working.
We are hoping to get a a game buzzers set for our classroom to act as a doorbell system that will alert students to stop working and follow directions based on the ring that they hear.
The game buzzers have different ringtones to alert students what they are being asked to do when it rings--is working time supposed to begin? Is talking time over? Are we lining up for special or lunch? The game buzzer/doorbell system will make for much quieter transitions!
We would also like the student magnets to help with our classroom transitions. Students can move the magnet with their name or number to indicate who or where they are working without creating a lot of noise. Much quieter transitions!
