My kids love to read books! Even the kids, who at the beginning of the school year, claim to hate reading, have learned how to find books that interest them. Anytime I bring in something new, I can never keep it on the shelf and have a long waiting list of students eager to read it! My students are in grades K-5, with about 525 students in our school (although, in a school year, I reach many more students than that has we have a highly fluid population).
The books my students are able to borrow from our school library are vitally important to growing their minds and helping to build life-long readers, as many of them do not have access to books at home.
As the librarian at an urban, high-poverty elementary school, I've learned that these kids are all kind, loving, and highly adaptable - they are able to make do with what they have. But I want to be able to provide them with more than they currently have. And I wholeheartedly thank you in helping me to make this come true for them!
Due to budget constraints, my purchase list for new books has been denied. This includes all of the latest award winning books. Books that are highly recommended for students and teacher to read, again and again. I'd like to change that, and am hoping you will help!
Our library needs the latest Award and Honors winning books - the ones that all kids should read.
I have chosen a selection of the books we are missing, and am looking forward to being able to share them with all my students! I'd like to being the year by reading these winners.
