My Students

I teach because of my students, they make teaching and make my life enjoyable. Our high school is over 60% free/reduced lunch, a rural small town environment. My students involve themselves in sports, part-time jobs, HOSA, FFA, Bass Fishing, FBLA all while striving to get a diploma.

They deserve to have the best we can offer them.

They deserve to have the best education with the best resources possible-because they are my kids. They make our school an amazing place.

My Project

Students are social creatures. They utilize social media to share all their emotions. Pictures, emojis and videos are popular among the teenagers roaming our high schools across the country.

Let's use their interest in video and socializing to show mastery of a topic or unit.

Many students have phones, however, I want to make sure everyone gets an opportunity to participate. When we have iPads in my classroom, all students will be able to use them to create videos, documentaries or news shows. This form of assessment lends itself to student ownership, student interest, inquiry and research.

Using video to show mastery allows students to be creative, expressing themselves in ways that a written paper or powerpoint presentation may not give them. When students become invested in an assignment or project they will produce their best work.
