Ancient/Modern Civilizations of Africa and Asia

My students need 29 books to explore the continents of Africa and Asia. They will study both the ancient and modern cultures of Japan, China, and Egypt.

My students are intelligent, motivated 6th graders in a high-poverty area. My students come to school eager to learn and I am excited to fill their minds with interesting and new information.

This year the curriculum of my 6th grade social studies class has changed to include studying ancient and modern cultures in Africa and Asia. I need interesting and relevant books to use in the classroom to entice my students to want to learn more about these fascinating topics.

These books will allow my students to access worlds that they have only heard about or seen on television. Students will use the books to create projects, for in class assignments and for general reading (they LOVE non-fiction books).

Your donation will make it possible for my students to learn and explore parts of the world that they most likely will never be able to see firsthand. Most of my students have never left the NYC urban area and these books will give them some insight into the world that exists outside NY.
