My Students

There are many great things going on at our school. Our school’s distinguished practice is health and fitness. We focus on many ways to incorporate activities to keep our bodies and minds healthy. This past school year, four schools competed in track and field. Several of our students placed and earned medals. This year, we brought music class to our school. Also, this is the second year that we are providing an after-school orchestra.

As a teacher of students who come from low-income families, I push them to persevere and be the best that they can be.

Living close to a tourist attraction, many of my students and their families are unable to go because they can’t afford it. Our school is a Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Some of my students live in motels or a crowded room. Some of my students are responsible for caring for their younger siblings as their parents work long hours. Whatever the circumstances may be, they come to school to learn.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting numerous art materials. I am asking for things such as Sharpie markers, Sculpty clay, jewelry boxes, foam bricks, paint brushes, canvases, and plaster gauze to bring the ancient civilizations that we are learning come alive. As we are studying each ancient civilizations, students will be able to make a piece of artifact and buildings. For example, with the jewelry boxes and foam bricks, they will have miniature pyramids and the inside will hold information about the Ancient Egyptian civilization. The plaster gauze will be used to make masks straight from their faces when they learn about Ancient Greece. The clay will be used to make dragons. They will use the canvases to paint an ancient civilization scene at sunset.

To make learning about Ancient Civilization more interesting and fun, we must make it hands-on through the use of art.

The students will be more engaged creating art, rather than just reading straight from the textbook. With your help, this will be possible for my students who come from a low-income household. At a time where a budget cut is happening again, we need help more than ever. Help me help my students and teach them to enjoy history through art.
