Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year, I have the pleasure of working with 26 young scholars who come to school every morning with bright smiles on their faces and eager to learn everything there is to learn in third grade that will prepare them for a better tomorrow.
My school is comprised of 80% English Language Learners, 10% African Americans, and 10% Pacific Islanders.
My school is a Title I School, which means that over 90% of students receive free lunch due to their low socio-economic status. However, regardless of their background, my students understand that from the moment they walk into the classroom, expectations are high and there is absolutely no excuses for them not to strive to be the best. At the young ages of nine and ten, my students are working hard to attain this goal and are on their way of becoming responsible leaders in their community.
My Project
With this new age of Common Core, students are constantly asked to refer to anchor charts that contain anywhere from academic vocabulary to sentence frames. These charts help students visualize the concepts and strategies that are needed to succeed in all academic subjects. Sometimes hanging anchor charts all over the classroom can be overwhelming for students and can make the room look cluttered. The chart stand will help organize all the anchor charts and make it easier for me to flip to the anchor chart needed for a specific lesson.
In addition, the anchor chart has wheels and a magnetic white board, which is ideal for moving it around the room and using it when working with my small groups.
By funding this project, not only will you enrich the learning environment of my students but it will also be a useful tool when working with smaller groups.
The chart stand will play a vital role in preparing my students for a brighter future.
