I work in a school with a mixed population of students that come in everyday smiling, ready for a day or learning and looking at me like I hung the moon. Some may have not gotten a single hug since I saw them last, some that have parents that know why investing in their kids is so important and some that have seen more negative in their short life than I have. My goal every day is to make a difference in their life, not just academically, but personally. If my kids leave my second grade class with nothing but knowing that I love them, then I have succeeded.
With all of that said, my next goal is to grow my kids, to make them successful and to know how much they deserve in life.
I want my kids to come in excited to learn and confident that they have the support they need. I am so honored to look my kids in the face everyday. They all have a little piece of my heart!
My Project
Anchor charts are a must in most any classroom. We make them daily and refer to them even more often. Some teachers make charts, laminate them and use them year after year.
When I make anchor charts, I involve my kids so that they have ownership of their learning.
They use the marker and help me to complete the anchor charts and I believe that helps them feel like the charts are more than just posters on the wall. We use these for every subject throughout the year. I know that I could probably save money by being one of those teachers that re-uses the charts but students are more actively engaged and feel like more than just spectators in our lessons when they get to hold them pen.
