My students attend a Title I school in an urban area. More than three-quarters of the students come from low-income households. Most of the students come from homes where English is not the primary language. It is my goal to help my students become life-long lovers of reading.
Close to half of my students are not reading at grade level.
Research has shown that students that are reading at grade level by the end of third grade tend to be more successful. All of my students have a need to become better readers.
These supplies will help my students succeed in learning. We use chart paper daily in our classroom during both reading and math instruction. It is mainly used while we are learning new reading or math skills and strategies. After the skill or strategy has been taught, the anchor chart is displayed in the classroom so that the students can use it as a reference if they forget what has recently been taught. This allows my students to solve problems more independently.
Having a new easel to create our beloved anchor charts would excite and motivate my students.
We currently use an easel during whole group instruction time that is rickety and has seen better days. If a student accidentally bumps into it, it easily collapses.
