Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a class of 8- and 9-year olds who enjoy learning. They are very creative and very curious.
They are interested in learning not only how to use technology and learn with technology but how to create their own team projects using technology.
My students have begun learning systems thinking and the engineering design process through off-line activities. From these lessons they are learning and practicing how to work together as a team and how to communicate effectively with one another. I would like for them to have the opportunity to begin learning about programming with MIT/Harvard's Scratch in the Spring so that they can created their own games in collaborative teams.
My Project
Peter H. Reynolds is one of my students' favorite authors and illustrators and one of my favorite authors. Children love his stories because they are inspirational and entertaining. Students love his words and his illustrations and engage in dynamic conversations about his work. Reynolds writes with respect for children and inspires them to express themselves creatively.
My students are excited to compare and contrast stories written by their favorite authors and illustrators.
They will be reading collections of books by the same author and/or the same illustrator to write collaboratively and make group presentations to teach other students in the class about the themes in their favorite books to persuade other students to read books by their favorite authors and illustrators. The students have read a few of Peter H. Reynold's books borrowed from the public library and are excited to have a class set to study while working on their projects.
