This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are invested in projects involving our community and have a high interest in the growth of fresh produce. We live in a farming community with many different soil and weather conditions. Many different variables affect the growth of alfalfa, oats and vegetables and students have been curious to see if weather plays a part in this difference or if the different soils yield different nutrients.

Students will collect soils samples from different ranches around Elko County and will conduct a series of tests to create a hypothesis on produce production in soils.

Students will then create equal variables for the soil to include temperature, moisture and light. Seeds will be planted and the growth progress will be documented to show whish soils have the highest nutrient levels for successful growth. This information will be shared with different ranches around the County and may hold these businesses become more productive in crop production.
