I am lucky enough to teach one of the sweetest age groups out there...first grade! My first graders are curious, funny, imaginative, creative, honest, and best of all, they have an innate love for learning!
My class is excited to learn new things each and every day!
Their faces light up whenever they learn and understand a new concept and they can hardly wait to share their learning with others.
Teaching first grade makes it impossible to not love my job. The sweet and smiley faces of my first graders, matched with their infectious love for learning, make each and every day a great one!
My Project
First grade is a huge year for literacy! Students come to first grade knowing their letters and sounds and throughout the year something magical happens! They are able to use their knowledge of letters and sounds from kindergarten plus their year in first grade to build a solid reading foundation. One that allows some of them to leave first-grade reading CHAPTER BOOKS! Some of those students are the same students who only knew a few words at the beginning of the year! It truly is an amazing thing to watch. In order to help these students make such a huge leap in reading, it is my job to put challenging, interesting, and age-appropriate books in front of my students all year long. My classroom library is somewhat lacking in that area. A lot of books are old and torn (from many years of love) and some are just outdated and do not interest my students anymore. I would love to put some fresh books in their hands and continue to foster that love of reading so that their reading can grow all year! Updating this library will not just help the kids in my class this coming year, it will help kids for years to come!
