My Students

My students are energetic and curious! They still love to learn as 4th graders and they are full of questions. They are also full of opinions and are beginning to learn how to listen to one another and see ideas from different perspectives. Science is by far, one of their favorite subjects.

During science time it isn't uncommon to hear gleeful shouts of, "I didn't know that was going to happen." Or "Gross, can I touch it?"

I enjoy listening to their extended discussions of why things worked in an experiment and why they didn't.

My Project

My students' love for learning about animals makes this project easy for them to get excited about. After discussing food chains and webs, I will give the students an owl pellet. I, however, will not tell them what it is. They will begin breaking it apart and I know I will hear shouts of, "I think that is a bone," and "What is that?" They will dissect the pellet and categorize what they observe in it.

Because of the owl pellet that they are able to manipulate, these bright young scientists will have detailed discussions about ecosystems and food webs.
