Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are humble and eager to learn! Most come from low socioeconomic status and do not have technology readily available for them to use at home. Our school population has 100% free lunch for our students and is a Title I school. The area is low income and all my students are English Language Learners as we live near the border. My students receive services through me because they have been diagnosed with Dyslexia.
My students are self-sufficient individuals who seek knowledge, and who surprise me with their talent, creativity, and intelligence every day.
I want to be able to provide them the tools that will help them become successful with distance learning. My students need to have visuals in order to have a better understanding of our program. The majority of my students only have one device available at home and have to share with siblings. Being able to record my lessons will give them the opportunity to view it when they have their device available. The supplies will also help them keep a log of their learning.
My Project
These materials will help my students tremendously! They rely heavily on a visual learning style where I continuously model for them. Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Also called reading disability, dyslexia affects areas of the brain that process language.
My students will continue to see me modeling their specific learning program that we use in order to better help their reading.
If this project gets funded, I will also be sending each one of my students a care package that includes composition books and pencils.
