Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a reading intervention teacher, so my students are struggling readers. Some are learning English for the first time. Many are reading one or two levels below grade level and need extensive support. Despite their academic challenges, they work hard to build new language skills every day and are proud to showcase their learning when given the opportunity.

The majority of my students come from low-income households and face significant challenges, but that does not stop them from coming to school each day excited and eager to learn!

They are eager and curious scholars who are each other's greatest supporters. My students are always willing to help each other and are quick to celebrate each other's successes. Our little learning community is one in a million!

My Project

Over the last two years I have worked hard to build a diverse and developmentally appropriate classroom library. We are fortunate to now have a bountiful library. However, with each new addition we are slowly outgrowing our bookcases.

My goal for this new year is to organize our growing library by theme and level so students can easily find the right book for them.

With new book bins and shelf liners to keep them upright I will be able to revamp our library. Once books are sorted and leveled students will be able to more easily look through titles. My hope is that this will cut down on my students' browsing time and increase their time reading durning our centers.
