Help me give my students a chance to broaden their reading experiences. My 7th grade students have requested the Island of the Blue Dolphins to read in class.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 7th grade students are wonderful and amazing! I have had many of them since 6th grade and have been lucky enough to see them grow! Many of them come from low economic backgrounds but have strived daily to overcome any obstacles that fall in their paths. Reading is not only essential to their growing minds but also fundamental in helping them achieve goals and understanding the world around them. Due to lack of resources I have to buy class set of books on my own. Any help in helping our future leaders is greatly appreciated by myself and my students!
My Project
I have always wanted to give my students a chance to chose a book that THEY want to read! Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell was requested by my 7th grade students. I would love to get the opportunity to allow them to read what is of interest to them. I feel that a child's love of reading is created when they have a choice. In addition I am in dire need of basic school supplies. Due to the low income population in my schools district, my wonderful parents are unable to help with class supplies without putting themselves in a bind. Please help me give my students this opportunity to read an amazing book and help support the basic needs of our classroom.
