This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My class wants to achieve their dreams!
I teach kindergarten in an inner-city Kansas school. My class is made up of students who live in poverty, speak little English, and need special education services and interventions. Despite all of these challenges, my student want to excel and meet their goals in life. Most of our students are failing their state assessments because of their inability to read.
I need more resources and creative ideas to teach my students the basics of recognizing and writing their letters so that they can go on to become successful in school and in life.
None of my students come to school with the basic knowledge of letter identification. To help students with this skill, I take at least an hour of every day to do literacy centers. During this time I have students grouped into smaller groups so that I can rotate them to me to get extra help. I need basic literacy supplies such as ABC matching and dry erase markers for writing so that my students will have things that they can work on without my assistance during this time.
Your help will ensure that my students get an extra boost in their reading skills; this could possibly change their life!
