"It's not faith in technology, it's faith in people." The words of Steve Jobs are at the core of my request to improve the technology in my classroom. My students have a variety of learning needs and behavioral challenges. Nearly all are in State custody and most are survivors of trauma. Though they are little, they are resilient! Our school, part of a residential psychiatric program, is often the first place these students are successful in a classroom community.
My request is to purchase an ipad for my class, that I can utilize to access them during nontraditional Instruction and then utilize after this unique time as a learning tool in our classroom.
Over nine years since the debut of the first ipad, what was once a luxury, is now essential to help students (and their teacher) be globally competent citizens.
My Project
As an educator, working from home, during this unique time I'm in need of high-quality technology. My "old teacher laptop" can only do part of the job.
Recommending high-quality apps, navigating the internet, and finding assignments that fit the needs of each unique learner has turned into a full-time job that must be completed at my house.
An iPad will help me be responsive to my students needs and provide me with accessibility to digital learning tools from my home. Like most teachers, budgets around my home are tight. My personal digital devices are being used for my own children's education from home. I need an iPad so I can be the best "at home educator" I can be.
