An iPad for Yearbook Editors

Help me give my students an iPad for yearbook editors to more effectively work online to help students in class or at home during the pandemic.

My Students

The students in Lehi, Utah came from a predominantly "small town" farming community that has turned into a bustling city. Farms and land have been sold to big developers, while student populations shift to small families and blue collar parents. Many of our students continue to have parents who live middle to low class lives, however, they work hard and are thrifty with their money.

As an English Department, we have noticed how students often pay for their own tickets, trips, tests, and sport associations, holding down part-time jobs to cover their own costs.

We love our students here, and know that their potential is great. We also know that our diversity is low, and that students want to read and explore the world they will enter soon. Our school, however, can't fund every dream project for every teacher. This is where some help would really come in handy! I would love for our students to get more than we can afford right now, and I would like to try to facilitate that in my own classroom.

My Project

Yearbook is all done on computers and is a student-led class in which we help students learn how to foster the skills in yearbook production that they show an aptitude so they can become leaders and editors.

Yearbook editors are drawn from students in the course, and we have these students assist and check other student teams for progress on their spreads.

To do this, they have to move back and forth from their desktop to the other teams' desktops. This is ineffective and we've been testing out using an iPad so they can carry their work from team to team. We have found this to be so effective that I'd like to make this a permanent part of our class. This is also more effective for our pandemic learning and online work.
