Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are motivated to learn and become well-rounded individuals. Our school has a loving and kind atmosphere. We educate the entire child and nobody is ever left behind.

Due to a lack of 1:1 computers in classrooms, we need an iPad computer for our low-income students who are learning English to use.

Many have never used a computer of any kind, as they do not have one available to them to use at home.

Sixty percent of our students do not speak English as their primary language. Our students would be able to utilize academic software at school in the classroom in order to learn critical vocabulary to be more successful in school. Students could also learn to publish their writing and present it to the class.

For the majority of my students, this would be the first time using an iPad. At this time, I do not have any iPads for my students to use daily due to a lack of school funding.

Many of our newest students have recently arrived from Central and South America without the command of the English language. They need practice utilizing the computers to enhance their English.

My Project

Many of my second-grade students had never seen or used iPads in their lives before coming to the United States of America. I would use the iPads to teach necessary vocabulary through Vocabulary.com. We could have a friendly competitions with other classes around the country online in an online Vocabulary Bowl. Students would then gain important vocabulary knowledge while learning the benefits of educational technology.

The students would be able to utilize Google Classroom, where our assignments are posted for students learning online.

During these difficult times of the COVID 19 Pandemic many of our students are learning online as well as face-to-face within the same classroom. Our school does not have a sufficient quantity of iPads in grade 2 for students to use for academic reasons in case the entire school needed to be closed to in-person learning. The majority of students will be then forced to learn through paper copies of countless academic packets without online support on Zoom from their teacher. Sadly, many students are not fluent readers, and they need the specialized assistance of computerized technologies. My students need be able to see my and hear my voice as I explain academic concepts online. Without the benefits of face-to-face distance instruction, these students will not be able to learn as quickly, and will quickly fall behind academically.

Many of our students do not have academic supports in place at home, since their families are not English speakers, their parents cannot help them with their schoolwork. They also do not They cannot use Khan Academy on a computer to view lessons on a variety of topics for additional supports. In class they would be able to help a student to utilize these types of academic supports. All students should have equal access to technology.
