Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science sparks excitement, motivation, and responsibility to learn about the world! Science is everything, and it is everywhere! It is a process – a way of thinking and understanding the world. Through science engagement in our schools, we can empower students to do great things! I teach 50 energetic and happy fourth graders.
Their eyes light up with the mention of science paired with technology and community action and they have many favorite topics that they like to learn about.
One thing they all have in common is that they like to learn about current events, use of 21st-century learning tools, and create projects that share their learning with others. My diverse group of students come from low income or middle-class families, yet they are very aware that they are only a small part of the world and there is a lot of science outside small-town Texas to learn about! My students are ready to gain valuable knowledge of the world while working with technology and developing projects to share their knowledge with others!
My Project
With an iPad, my students will have an opportunity to engage in unique and collaborative experiences that will bring the world of science into our room. An iPad will also allow us to share our learning with the world!
My scientists learn best through engaging, real-world application.
They will be able to virtually explore the world's oceans using a NearPod simulation, dissect a frog using Augmented Reality, engage as citizen scientists to classify African animal photos through Snapshot Serengeti, view the moon through the Moon Globe app as it appears from our location on Earth and explore every nook and crater, dissect virtual owl pellets, as well as create stop motion videos to teach younger students about an important science concept.
