My class participates in a reader and writer's workshop, which means my students are engaged in centers and guided practice. We only have 2 computers which greatly prohibits learning. All of my students are below in ELA soby the end of the school year I would love for all of them tobe on grade level
Our school is a Title 1 school, which produces some greatly appreciated benefits for our students such as free and reduced lunches.
These students are not the ordinary children that may come to mind. Sadly, they face many hardships evolving from their home life. These children must overcome many obstacles in order to experience even a small hint of success. By being in school, they have the opportunity to succeed and to better their lives, and as their teacher it is my goal to make sure they are granted every opportunity possible. These children have become more than just students to me, they are now a big part of my life for whom I care very deeply for. Even after only 3 weeks, I can already see so much potential in my students. My particular class struggles in ELA subjects. Therefore, we have a high focus on grammar, vocabulary and writing, and an insurmountable amount of reading to get through. If given the resources, they can blossom into greatness.
My Project
Our school has a reading and math text that have online components. The students have access to these online resources for half an hour once a week when they visit the computer lab. We have two desktop computers available for student use in the classroom as well, but I would really like a whole reading group, or math group, (typically 4-5 students) to be able to access the online materials at once. One ipad would allow for this very nicely. The students can read our weekly stories, complete math activity sheets, watch math tutorials, and take endless assessments through the texts' online resources. The use of an ipad does not stop there. I can upload the ipad with educational apps and they can serve as reward time when students complete a certain amount of their work. I can also create interactive lessons on the ipad that my students who need extra support can watch and complete assignments. The visual and audio aid that an ipad lesson would offer is immeasurable.
The amount that an ipad can be used in my classroom is limitless.
I have signed up for an ipad training class where I will learn a vast amount of engaging apps that my students can use.Since my students do not have technology present at home they are always very excited and engaged whenever they have the opportunity to use computers or preform on the smart board.
