Teaching at a performing arts school within urban Philadelphia is one of the most interesting and rewarding jobs that a teacher can have. Not only do my students participate in their average academic classes, they also chose a "major" class as well. These major classes include a blend of classic performing arts as well as contemporary digital media and the varying branches of STEM. My students express their creativity in ways that I wasn't even sure was possible.
Not only have I seen how creative my students are, but they are also eager to integrate their chosen major within their academic classes, which is something that is amazing to behold.
As an ELA teacher, it is an amazing feeling to know that my students are applying the skills we learned in class to create scripts, read music, fulfill a hypothesis, and converse about an inspiring performance that they have witnessed. I am so blessed to be able to work with such talented and dedicated students.
My Project
Not all students learn the same exact way. Therefore, not every student is going to be on the same levels as their peers. Small group instruction is crucial to everyday instruction because it helps personalize a child's education. I am very fortunate to work in the school that I do. We are blessed with iPads and Apple TVs to deliver content where the students have a say in their learning. However, it is because of that reason that we do not have the appropriate furniture that traditional classrooms would. Creating a practical space for small group instruction within my classroom has been difficult. It is for this reason that I am asking for a kidney table and stools to make a space in my classroom to gather my students who are struggling and walk them through their obstacles.
By donating to our project, you will be able to help personalize my student's education and get them the one-on-one education that they need to succeed.
Students will be able to work with me on concepts they have not quite mastered yet in a welcoming and practical space. I know that with the addition of the kidney tables and chairs within our classroom, I will see the children grow exponentially.
