Some of my students need more than verbal praise when they are caught doing something positive or kind. This year I am introducing a program called DoJo to reinforce good behavior. This iPad will allow my students to have instant gratification. They can award themselves with points!
My class is a vibrant bunch!
This year, like many others I have a variety of ability ranges in my students. Some students are reading on a sixth grade level and some are reading on a second or third grade level. I also have an unusually high volume of students diagnosed ADD/Autistic. These students typically learn in a more visual way. This iPad will not only reinforce their behavior but will also aid in their learning.
My Project
This year I am introducing a program called DOJO. This program reinforces students to remain on track and do the right thing by awarding them points. If I see someone being kind or following directions I can give them a point. The more points they earn in a week the more things they can buy in the classroom store on Friday. With this iPad my visual learners can assign their own points. Being able to see them accumulate points throughout the week will be extremely beneficial to these particular students. The iPad will also be used to reinforce literacy and math skills during center time.
Having this iPad to use in my classroom will improve so many things.
I am hoping to increase my students' desire to do the right thing as well as improve students' abilities who are struggling academically. They will be thrilled to have such a cool piece of technology. Their pride alone will be enough to change the dynamics of my classroom in a positive way.
