My students need soccer balls, cones, and goals in order to participate in a weekly soccer program to work on building teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Being a part of a team can change your life forever. We want to give our students the opportunity to learn the important life lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship through soccer.
Our students come from a low-income neighborhood where many parents don't have the time or money to bring their child to an after school sports program.
Our school is made up of a mixture of general education students as well as students on the autism spectrum. Our school has a specialized program that places positive social role models in the classroom with 3-4 students with autism.
My Project
We are requesting 12 soccer balls, cones, and two small transportable soccer goals. These resources will give our students the opportunity to be outside and get exercise. Students will create new friendships while working together. They will also gain the teamwork and sportsmanship skills that aren't directly taught in the everyday classroom.
Sports allow children to form positive relationships with their peers.
Being active helps keep them healthy. Soccer will give our students the opportunity to be a part of a team as a free afterschool activity, which they otherwise might not have been able to due to financial struggles of their families. We hope that the lessons in good sportsmanship and teamwork, as well as healthy living will stay with our students throughout their lives.
