My Students

The school library is a place of books, but here we embrace more than linguists. Here we strive to offer a multitude of activities to satisfy our diverse population of student learners.

Our school is located in a small, urban community.

It has a population of 700+ students. Over 60% of our students are considered low-income, and 7% are English Language Learners, with 24 different first-languages being spoken in their respective homes.

The majority of my student population do not have access to STEAM/STEM "toys" because of their economic status. I would love to level the playing field by making STEM projects accessible to all students who go to this school.

My Project

Teens have the wiggles too! Help give teens a more comfortable place to sit while browsing the online catalog.

Right now they're stuck sitting in uncomfortable wooden chairs, but with a stand-up desk and a high stool to lean on, they can browse in comfort and be on their way.

Being allowed to move around helps with the overall comfort and learning experience of my students.

This is the first of four stations which I'm setting up throughout the library. I'd like to set up one, initially, as a test and see how the students like (and use) a new set up.
