Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Overnight teaching changed and those without technology were left behind in the chaos of trying to round up any technology available on borrowed terms. Our Title One school is not a 1:1 device district and my students and I are struggling through this new teaching method.
The education of my student should not depend of the ability of their parents to afford technology.
Yet, it does. My sweet, caring students are eager to get back to their education. I have students trying by any and all means to join our classroom. I have several kids borrowing tablets and laptops, using parents' phones and leaving their houses to public places just to get internet. It's disheartening that their education depends on things that are completely out of their control.
My Project
Distance Learning has created many challenges. At the same time teachers have shown that we can face anything thrown our way. My district is not a 1:1 district therefore I opted to give one of the students the only last laptop in our classroom because they have 4 kids in that household who needed it.
Preferring to give students our last laptop has led me to immense troubles trying to teach but I'd rather me stressing and frustrated than put any child in that position!
I am currently teaching math, literacy, science and social studies with an android phone and trying to share with my husband's fire tablet from his job. I have 20 students depending on my trouble and desperately need some technology relief to give them the best experience that can be given during this time of opportunities.
