Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have thirteen students in my class who all have special needs. Some of them are English Language Learners, and most of them are from low income households. My students either attend their neighborhood school, or they are bused to our school because their home school does not provide the special education program that they require.
Since I began teaching in mid-October, I have been trying to find engaging, and motivating ways to teach my students. I have been fortunate enough to receive many donations from Donors Choose. Many generous donors have funded different types of board games focusing on reading comprehension, sight words, and vocabulary. My students greatly enjoy playing these board games, and I really enjoy the fact that my students are practicing their academic skills in a positive manner. All thirteen of my students are receptive to playing these games because they're fun. I never have to cajole them to practice their academic skills using these board games.
The resource that I need at this moment is a pack of 4 board games that focus on specific math skills. These board games will focus on the following math skills: fractions, place values, telling time, and money. As my students engage in playing the board games, they will also practice the specific math skill. My students do not realize that they are practicing math skills when they play the games. However, I notice that my students retain more facts and skills when they are practicing them while playing engaging and motivating games.
You will make it possible for my students to practice their math skills in an engaging, fun, and motivating manner. Your generosity will allow my students to enjoy learning, and become successful in academic areas. Your help will ensure that my students will retain more math facts or skills than if I merely taught it to them. I believe my students need to learn by doing, and these games will help my students learn more effectively and efficiently. My students and I would greatly appreciate your generosity.
