Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 1st grade teacher and this year will be my first year teaching. We are a Title 1 Dual Immersion school located at East Palo Alto, where our focus is to become bilingual and bi-literate learners. It is located in a low-income community where most of our students are on free/reduced lunch. We often see students in the care of grandparents or other family members, while their parent are working multiple jobs.
Our students and their families have so much dedication and perseverance towards their education, especially towards developing their native language or working on adding a second language.
As a first year teacher, I want to be able to provide the best resources for my students in order to create a comfortable, inviting space for learning.
My Project
I believe that my students deserve an open and comfortable space in order to help them do their best learning! Currently, we do not have a carpet for our students, and they do not have a comfortable space to learn.
I want to provide my students with a carpet in order to give them a space where we all come together and focus on building a community as a class.
A classroom carpet is an essential part of our 1st grade class. This carpet will give students enough space to wiggle around, as well as the opportunity to come together as a group and work collaboratively with each other. It will also give students the chance to be engaged in lessons and stories.
