I teach at a Title I Elementary school. The students here all receive free breakfast and lunch due to the high percentage of low socioeconomic families in the surrounding neighborhoods. I am the Third Grade Inclusion ELA Teacher to students with varying learning disabilities and exceptionalities. Many of the Regular Ed students are overage or are reading far below grade level.
Despite the difficulties and disadvantages my students face everyday, they are hard working, persistent, determined and optimistic about their education.
My hope is to close their reading deficit gaps while continuing to foster their love for literacy.
Reading Phones are a wonderful resource for struggling readers because they help develop their phonological processing abilities. They aid in increasing proficiency in both fluency and comprehension. Reading Phones allow students to monitor their own reading without disrupting their classmates and also help students who have trouble concentrating focus on their text while reading independently. Reading Phones are also proven to be highly effective with English Language Learner as they are developing their decoding and vocabulary skills as well.
They are an excellent tool for helping students build their reading confidence by overcoming their reluctance to read aloud.
Statistics say that a students reading below grade level in 3rd Grade will still be a struggling reader in 10th grade. Your donation will not only impact the literacy of my students now, but will continue to effect them for years to come.
