Our special education classrooms service high school and transition age (18-21 year old) students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The students we serve have a variety of strengths and abilities, and the goal of my life skills classes is to equip them with the skills that they need to be self-advocating, independent, and active members of their community.
We want our students to reach for the stars and make their life goals and dreams a reality.
To do this, they need exposure to a variety of experiences and curriculum that will allow them to access general education curriculum, pique their interests, learn life and job skills to be independent adults, and equip them with the tools they need to be life-long learners!
My Project
In my life skills literacy and math classrooms, we are using technology to research and enhance our learning. My students frequently use headphones to access technology and personal learning devices. Noise reducing headphones will help them focus on their learning.
My students are life-long learners who are learning to navigate the world around them independently and safely.
They need to learn the necessary reading and technology skills to get around their community, live independently, and obtain employment. The environmental print curriculum will help my students of all abilities learn the necessary reading and print skills to explore, learn, and grow!
