Ms. Gentry from Charlotte NC is requesting a class trip through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the opportunity to experience camping learning about ecology and the great outdoors! They need a trip to the YMCA's Camp Thunderbird!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are faced with many challenges inside and outside the classroom due to their socioeconomic status. Our school is a Title I school where all of our students receive free or reduced meals. The majority of my students are also faced with the challenge of learning English as their second language. Despite the many challenges that my students face, they are capable of so much and I know they can be successful.
My goal is to create an environment for my students that is inviting, engaging, and meaningful.
My classroom is a safe place where learning is fun but adds meaning to their lives. Thanks to your donations I will continue to be able to do whatever I can to help my students succeed and move on to be successful members of society.
The project funds will go to YMCA Camp Thunderbird for our students to go to this overnight camping experience. The funds will pay for the cost of the camp and outdoor activities which include exploring the forest and river, aquatic ecology, wildlife exploration, along with team building games (high ropes) and a campfire. The cost also covers all meals while our students are at camp. Students have spent the past few months studying a variety of science concepts such as ecosystems and weather. This trip will allow them to make real-life connections to some of these concepts.
The students will have the opportunity to learn science, life, and social skills while experiencing a valuable camp experience that they might not otherwise be able to have!
Camp Thunderbird is an amazing experience that we want all of our students to be able to experience regardless of their financial situation. We cannot wait to be outside the walls of the classroom applying what we have learned this year in science and ending fifth grade with a trip they will not forget!
