My Students

I teach 25 1st graders at a Title I school, and we are getting to know each other!

My students love our meeting area time and sharing with each other.

They enjoy listening to me read aloud Flat Stanley and Ready, Freddy books, as well as my beloved Dr. Seuss books in this space too.

I love their enthusiasm about school and their eagerness to learn and share. We spend a lot of time learning about each other in 1st grade and building a community that will continue when they leave my classroom.

My Project

Our morning routine has us sit in our meeting area and discuss our calendar, daily activities, and exciting things happening in our 1st grade lives.

It would be wonderful if we had an actual rug that defined our meeting area so each student had their "own" space to sit for this time each morning (and other times throughout the day).

Being able to give assigned seats to each student would help them focus on the lesson instead of each other.

I can imagine the excitement and conversation that this funded project will bring to my classroom! They will be amazed to hear how our meeting area rug came to be ours.
