Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Currently, my students are working from home, where many do not have technology or the internet. Trying to keep in touch with them has proven to be a challenge. Many live in small apartments with a lot of family members while some are helping to take care of a sick family member.
It is a struggle for a kindergartner to learn under normal circumstances, however, it has been even harder with the challenges the families are currently facing.
We are a kindergarten ICT class made of 40% special education students and 60% regular education students. Our class is special in that students have varying disabilities such as speech impairments, learning disabilities, and ADHD. My class of 25 kindergartners has unique personalities and varying academic levels ranging from kindergarten to second grade.
My Project
My students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. This iPad will be delivered to a student at home during remote learning. The student in mind does not have technology in his house to be able to continue with the work being assigned. An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. Many of our students who have learning disabilities, speech impairments, ADHD, and Autism need more interactive tools for learning. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom, as well as build twenty-first-century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world.
iPads are integral and amazing tools that should be present in every classroom.
Without consistent access to technology, my students are not able to access 21st-century skills. I believe that they should not be held back because of lack of funds but deserve to explore and learn on the same level as students who have this access. Our classroom will be forever changed by the addition of iPads. All students will be able to access learning through technology on a daily basis.
