Our school is located in an urban inner city area in Ohio. My students take part in the inclusion model at my school. Throughout the school day, I support students in the general education classrooms and provide direct instruction in my smaller resource room for the areas of reading, writing, and math. I have a wonderful group of students in my homeroom.
These hardworking students strive every day to meet their own individualized academic goals.

My Project
I am very excited to begin using Orton-Gillingham, a multi-sensory approach to teaching reading, in my classroom this upcoming school year. The Report of the National Reading Panel: Teaching Children to Read concluded that for children to become good readers, they must be taught: phonemic awareness skills, phonics skills, fluency skills, and application of reading comprehension strategies to enhance understanding of what they read. After receiving 40 hours of training on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach to teach reading, I find myself eager for the school year to begin.
My students will receive explicit, systematic, phonics instruction in a small teacher-lead group.
The materials requested below will support and enhance this instruction. Students will use red & green folders for their decodable and "red word" study. The large visual timer will help students monitor their time between rotations and independent work. Lastly, the iPad mini will reinforce instruction by providing students with more practice to master new skills.
