Help me give my students a chance to be excited to show their solutions to a math problem and explain their reasoning. Also, class work can be uploaded to Google Classroom for someone absent to view missed work.
The students I teach are fun, energetic and full of personality. The sense of community we have at the charter school I work at in the mountains of North Carolina is incredible. Students from all walks of life are accepting of each other’s differences and supportive of one another. They are in a very pivotal stage in 7th grade and sometimes that can be challenging. We embrace those challenges and create an engaging, holistic approach to learning. We teach compassion, kindness, empathy, and acceptance through social emotional learning classes and how to contribute to the community. It’s fulfilling to connect with these young champions and be a part of their journey.
My Project
I teach 7th grade math and both the 6th and 8th grade teachers have an Apple iPad and pen. They project the screen to multiple walls of the room and allow students to display their solutions and understanding at their own desks. This allows more participation as they won’t have to be standing in front of the whole class at a white board. It also allows the teacher to have movement around the room instead of standing at the board during lessons. Also, my colleagues save the daily progress and upload it to Google Classroom which allows someone absent to catch up on missed work.
