I currently teach language arts to gifted and high achieving 6th and 7th graders. My students are social, bright, talented, and best of all want to be challenged. This of course, keeps me on my toes. At the start of most classes, I am greeted with a, "Hey, Doc, guess what?" Students want to share about the latest book they read, their latest adventures on the athletic field or drama stage, or their latest score on their favorite video game.
I am very lucky to be able to claim that my worst day at work is better than most people's best days.
My Project
After our laptop project was fully funded, my students immediately asked if we could get iPads and Apple pencils. These will provide students with more differentiated learning experiences through the increase use of reading and writing conferences, stations/centers, and formative assessments that will guide future instruction. To accomplish this, students need access to more technology including iPads and Apple pencils. This technology will allow students to study current events, show what they know by making videos using FlipGrid, explore the world through VR, and complete a variety of formative assessments. Students in the Creative Writing Club will use the technology as well to support their extracurricular activities. Although we are a BYOD school, not all students have their own devices, so having several iPads dedicated to my classroom will provide access to meaningful learning for all students.
Middle school students deserve the very best because #TheMiddleMatters.
