Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The second graders in my classroom come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our school is in a neighborhood considered low income and all the students in our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our district provides free lunch pick up for families that do not always have the chance to have a meal ready during the pandemic. We strive to make sure their bodies are satisfied so their minds will be ready to learn. My second graders love to learn and welcome new opportunities to discover something new each day with a positive and open mind.

My Project

A MacBook will help me to navigate the complex and challenging world of distance learning efficiently and effectively. Since most of my school day is spent on the computer on Zoom or creating and designing activities, a top notch computer will be so helpful when I’m online with my students via live Zoom lessons. I could connect a doc cam to it so they can view books I read aloud to them or when we do art projects together such as directed drawings. A better computer will have a better connection, and resolution, allowing less interruptions during Zoom.

Using a MacBook Air will also make a great difference when I want to share my screen with them during our small group synchronous meetings in order to show them videos or go over their weekly language arts, Math, and Science activities that I create on the Seesaw platform.

Having a well designed computer will benefit my students because it is the main tool I use to connect with them. I am either working with my students synchronously, teaching via Zoom having whole group class meetings where we go over the daily assignments, read stories aloud, going to breakout rooms to work in partnerships on an activity, and even sing happy birthday. Other times, I am working one on one with students who need extra help or with small groups teaching a math or language arts lesson via Zoom.

When not working with students, I am still on the computer. I am working asynchronously, creating engaging and rigorous digital lessons on the Seesaw platform that support the content taught live. My day also includes planning the upcoming lessons with my second grade level team, communicating with parents, attending professional development, and correcting assignments, all with the use of a laptop.
