As a teacher in a low-income, Title I school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Our school is a Title I school with many that receive a free and reduced breakfast/lunch based on their socioeconomic status. My students range from above grade level to below grade level, yet always willing to give their best effort.
Some of our students need all the extra help they can get to be successful in school and life.
This year I have several students that do not know the alphabet. It is hard to find things for them to work on that will encourage them without making them feel different from the rest of the children in our room.
My Project
I have a variety of learners in my room this year. These items will help motivate my very low children with letter sounds without embarrassment. It will slow down my wiggly children enough to grasp concepts of reading. Hopefully, will grab my low confidence children to engage in learning. The iPad will be used for reading stories, working with words, and playing games that encourage reading. The Osmo has many games that work with reading and math. Both the iPad and Osmo kits will be used to encourage all my children to grow and become well round children that are ready for second grade!
