My students are playful, innovative, and collaborative. They work hard to improve their academic skills and content knowledge, as well as their social and emotional skills.
They deserve a classroom that serves as a calm and safe place to learn and grow every day.
I want my students to feel ownership over taking care of our classroom, and have the ability to find and return student-friendly materials independently.
Our school is located outside of Annapolis, MD. My students are amazing, and I am devoted to making sure they enjoy coming to school every day.
My Project
After moving to a new school one day before school started, I quickly realized that the carpet left in the room was not suitable for learning. A big carpet may seem unimportant, but it provides a whole-class meeting space that students should want to sit on every day to take risks and make mistakes.
All students deserve a comfortable place to sit, learn, play, and build relationships.
The rug we have now only fits about half the class and it is falling apart. The rug I chose provides space for all, is a durable material, and is a solid color that will not be distracting to my students. In addition, the rolls of dry-erase paper will add to the positive climate in my classroom. I will use it to cover some of my bulletin boards and chalkboards in order to provide more interactive opportunities for my students throughout the classroom.
Students will be encouraged to use the carpet, in addition to the tables and desks that the school provides, to complete classwork with partners and independently. The ability to use colorful dry-erase markers to work on bright whiteboards will motivate students to stay focused and persevere through difficult work. It will also make it significantly easier for me to post my daily objectives so students have a better grasp on what skills we are learning. My students will be ecstatic to have a homey place to play and learn for many years to come!
