Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are absolutely amazing! At only ten years old, the resiliency of our students have us speechless. Many of our students are from military families that have to pick up and move every few years. The rest of our students live in a rural impoverished town that provides few opportunities for them. Yet the students show up everyday eager to share in our community circles where we try to find a positive or compliment each other when they need one. They are role models to their teachers and we get to learn from them every day.
My Project
A trip to Emerald Cove Outdoor Science Camp is just what our students need. At the institute students will spend five days studying, hiking, investigating and observing the natural environment. Students will also learn new songs, dance, and play games as they are learning.
The goal of science camp is for our students to grow in knowledge, skills, character, and relationships through purposeful, hands on experiences.
Science camp is also a great opportunity for our students to develop an awareness of how their choices can have a positive effect on their world.
Our students are very limited to the experiences and opportunities like these, as our students come from a impoverished and rural town.
