Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a small, Title I school where many of my students qualify for the reduced-price or free lunch program. Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language. My students come to school eager to learn every day and appreciate all of the donors who support our projects!
I teach a group of amazing 2nd graders.
They come to school ready to learn and I am in awe at what we accomplish with the limited resources that we have in our classroom. My students thrive working in small groups on lietracy projects, math problem solving activities, STEM explorations, and creating masterpieces in art. However, we face the challege of finding ways to meet in small goups without small group activity tables.
My Project
We often hold our small-group guided learning sessions on the rug. Six to eight students sit around the rug holding clip boards, pencils, books, activity papers and manipulatives. Writing is especially difficult because students do not have a solid surface to set their papers. Having a small group activity table will provide a comfortable work area for my students. They will sit on chairs, have a solid surface to hold their writing books, activity papers, pencils and manipulatives, instead of juggling everything in their hands.
My students would use this acitivity table to explore math manipulatives and brainstorm solutions to real world math problems, enagage in STEM Science activites, and read and write collaboratively with peers.
My second graders are eager to learn everyday! Having an activity table to meet and collaborate with their peers would be such an incentive to continue their love of learning. Please consider giving to our project. Thank you.
