My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.

Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status and are English Language Learners. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire my students to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

I absolutely love using Flipgrid in my classroom but one thing we are missing are good quality headphones that have microphones on them for my students to record their videos with, they make their voice be heard sometimes over the noise that can be in the background in the class.

Flipgrid is an amazing website that gives 100% of my students a voice and these headphones will help amplify their voices even more.

They can use this website for a variety of reasons from responding to literature to explaining and teaching a math problem. Many of my students are nervous to speak in front of the class, some it's because they are still developing their English Language abilities and for others, it's because they are unsure about their abilities, but through Flipgrid my students develop the confidence to allow their voice to be amplified and heard.

We also use Flipgrid for my students to connect with other students from around the globe, which helps my students expand their worldview and connects them with different cultures other than their own.
