Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kids love to try and put story events in order. It helps their vocabulary development and builds their confidence when retelling a story. It also helps them develop writing skills when they are writing the stories in sequencial order.
My First Grade students are mostly Spanish speakers who are developing their vocabulary and proper sentence structure.
After reading a story to them, they enjoy sharing with a partner how the story began, what happened in the middle, and what happened at the end of the story.
My Project
The Sequencing Tiles and Cards, as well as, the Correct the Sentences and Vocabulary Journals will help them develop more independence. They can use these items on their own while I go around and help individual students who are struggling. They will learn to put stories in order by sequencing the pictures, then read the sentences and match them to the pictures, and then write a story in sequencial order. This will help them develop better writing skills when they write their own stories.
The sequencing tiles and cards have vivid pictures and several different stories to choose from, which will keep students interested in completing the activities.
They are still able to use their own imagination when writing the stories, adding more details, as they aquire better writing skills through the year.
