My students live in a rural area in Upper Michigan. We are a high poverty school district and one hundred percent of the students are able receive free breakfast and lunch.
This year my goal is to continue to create an inviting classroom that is properly socially distanced for the safety of my students and our staff.
Our district is offering a choice of face-to-face or distanced learning for our students. In order to set my classroom up in a manner that fits the requirements for social distancing, I will have to store my lamps that have LED bulbs and utilize the florescent lighting in my classroom ceiling. However, I find that florescent lighting causes a glare and many students complain that the light is harsh. I would love to be able to filter the light and bring back some of the ambient light that my LED lamps provided.
My Project
For several years now I've used LED bulbs in a wide array of lamps to help soften the lightening in my classroom. I have found that it created a much more ambient space and reduced the complaint of headaches from students (and myself ).
The classroom environment is profoundly important in the way both myself, and my students, view our lessons.
Over the years I've worked hard to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable.
However, due to having to space seating out, I will be removing a number of my lamps and will be using the overhead florescent lights (in the morning hours when it is still dark in the winter). Therefore, these filters will help soften the lights (think of a doctor's or dentist's office). My students spend a large portion of their learning day in front of a computer, which can be hard on your eyes - so I would like to help reduce the glare of the bright bank of lights in my ceiling.
The flameless candles will also create a soothing mood and help them feel that our classroom is a special place. Please, be our light and help us learn, share, and grow!
