Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These are the most energetic, creative, joyful, and amazing students a 6th grade teacher like me could ever ask for. My students come from the most poverty stricken area of San Antonio's West-side, Edgewood. Edgewood has a median household income of $27,589 and 27.5% of residents live below the poverty level. Where only 8% of graduating seniors will be accepted into a college or university.
My students deserve better than that, and they are willing to do anything possible (given the right structure) to get to their ultimate academic goal.
Which is graduating high school and attending a 4 year college or university.
These scholars are some of the brightest minds that love to move around, sing, and just have fun when it comes to learning. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
My Project
With your support I will be able to help drive my students into the tech age. As you well know, our scholars/sons/daughters are all about the technology around them. I want to incorporate my math lessons with the evolving tech world.
With the tablets the students will be able to participate in whole group discussion while letting them get hands-on with the material itself.
I hate using paper worksheets. I've been known to create activities that involve putting all desk aside and having the students work on the floor with butcher paper to show their work. Even have them write on desk with dry-erase markers to prove their work for a problem. I believe with the technology in the classroom comes excitement, motivation, focus, and skill practice.
Some of the programs we will be using will be classflow and explain everything.
