My students are very bright young adults in a high school special education classroom. All of my students have autism spectrum disorder and face various emotional and intellectual challenges. They go to school in a Harvey-hit area of Houston in a Title I school.
My students also require additional practice to help them with their social skills.
My students have increased chances of job success in the future when they are provided opportunities to practice social skills in school.
My students work on academic skills as well as vocational and interpersonal/social skills throughout their school day. They are hardworking and a delight to teach. They enjoy learning new things and are especially interested in learning how to work this year! All of the materials will help increase the structure of the classroom and their independence within the classroom and the community and help them achieve job opportunities as well as build peer relationships!
My Project
My special education classroom is in need of lots of basic supplies to increase the structure for my students with Autism.
Keeping classroom materials organized will help my students with Autism access the tools they need to succeed.
Having a few games and leisure items will help my students with social skills. And an abundance of art supplies will allow them to freely express themselves and be creative. Calculators and rulers will help make math more visual for them. Our special ed classroom is small, so obtaining these types of supplies each year is very difficult. My students will be so excited to see new materials, which are often in short supply!
