Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are extremely sweet, polite, and they come to class every day with an eagerness to learn. I teach resource Algebra 1 to an extraordinary group of 9th grades. My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 85% of our students receiving free lunch. Ninety-seven percent of the students are minorities. We currently have about 3,500 students and in a big school like this, I make sure my students know that I care about them. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
Mathematics is a difficult subject for almost every student. In my classroom, I let students know that I believe in their success. I'm in need of materials that will allow me to present content in a more engaging fashion. VersaTiles are a hands-on self-checking skills practice system. In mathematics, it's important for students to practice practice practice. Having students do a worksheet with 20 questions just doesn't work with these kids the way that they used to. It's almost impossible for me to check every student's individual answers. VersaTiles allow students to check their own work.
Presenting important material in a variety of colors engages the student's interest.
The laminator will be used to laminate task cards which engage kinesthetic learners. The colored paper is important to engage students.
