My students need to learn from these amazing read-alouds. The text, The Reading Strategies Book is full of ideas that I can use to share the read-clouds in my classroom.
I work at an elementary school in San Diego. Our school is unique because 97% of our population are military families. Because of this, the majority of our population are considered low income. Our families have very little money to spend on additional supports.
We also have a high population of students with special needs.
For this reason, it is important to differentiate the lessons and to create lessons that are engaging to all of the students.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to meet some of our students needs' because there is very little money to spend on curriculum or additional supports. With the new Common Core standards we were not given any new curriculum. We are all trying to come up with engaging lessons for our students. The TIME For Kids will help all of the children have all of their own text that they can manipulate differently.
My Project
I am presently enrolled in an amazing writing and reading professional development opportunity. I learned about these great read alouds and I would love to read them to my students. My students struggle with inferencing and these books have such a inferential meaning. I know that they would learn from the author's messages of these stories.
My students will be able to learn how to think deeper about grade level text by exploring these great read alouds.
My students will be able to listen to the books as a read aloud and then I will type out the text so that they can manipulate the text in collaborative groups.
