My Students
My school currently has 815 students enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year. Our school was in an area affected by Hurricane Harvey and some of our students throughout the district and their families were affected as well. The school is located in Southwest Houston. The student population consists of 70.27% Hispanic, 22.95% African American, Asian 3.28%, 1.42% White and 1.08% Native American. Students with two or more races are at .87%.71 and 26% Bilingual. 1.53% Gifted and Talented and 8.31% Special Education. Most of our students are apartment dwellers and are of low income. The supplemental materials will add beauty to the music classroom and provide visual stimulation for all learners.
My students are special because they grateful for many things others take for granted.
They are sweet spirited, very intelligent and eager to learn. My school is a Title I school (low income) and the materials will allow students to maximize learning and provide a pleasant learning environment.
My Project
My students are enjoying learning piano so much! This opportunity has allowed them to explore their talents outside of the general music curriculum. They get so excited by their progress no matter how small. It gives me goose bumps looking at them work hard and I smile with them as they achieve their goals for the day.
Incentives are important to young children and it makes them feel a sense of self worth!
Items like musical stickers, melody pops, musical pencils and erasers will be issued to the students when they exhibit hard work and a job well done! I want to continue to give them chances to prove to themselves that learning to play is possible, while rewarding their progress. Other requested materials such as the paper cutter, Post -It Super Sticky easel pads, duct tape, pencil boxes, classroom pencils and erasers, Crayola markers and laminating sheets, will help me to keep my classroom organized, efficient and effective while giving musical instruction to students. These supplies will supplement the shortage and availability of necessary materials Please help me continue to reward my student's progress while continuing to give them quality instruction.
