My students need Scholastic News and Storyworks to improve their literacy during small group instruction.

This is my first year teaching fourth grade! I had the pleasure of teaching this wonderful group of students last year and will continue our hard work together in this upcoming school year. I work with a class of 22 brilliant students who are eager to learn. Many of my students have not been enriched with literacy outside of school and they struggle with finding the excitement of reading. I would like to provide them an opportunity to fall in love with reading and never let it go.
I teach in a very low socio-economic area.
Most of my students live in poverty and they face many stresses that most children, and even adults, do not have to face. For them, school is one place they are allowed to still be kids and feel safe. All they want is love and attention and to feel proud of themselves. They are some of the most amazing children I have ever met and all I want is to see them be successful.
My students will use the Scholastic magazines during small group instruction. This is the time of the day when I can pull small groups of students to really dissect text and guide them in their learning. This is the time of day my instruction becomes most effective, especially for struggling readers. These magazines cover a wide range of topics including science, math, and social studies. I believe these resources will excite them to want to read more and become better readers. I love that these magazines expose children to current events and culture diversity from all over the world. I hope these topics will spark interest in my students to want to learn more. These materials will definitely be beneficial in increasing my students comprehension abilities and overall academic success.
My vision is that these materials will increase student engagement and participation during small group instruction.
These magazines will assist in helping them become more active learners. I know they will absolutely love to have their very own, personal magazine to help with their learning. I believe it will change their lives for the better in several ways. It will assist in them in becoming better readers, as well as expose them to topics they wouldn't learn about elsewhere.
